Hi, my name is Ashley M. Ratcliff. Welcome to my portfolio website, a place to display my diverse writing skills and passion for the written word.
From my childhood days of creating my own storybooks to experiencing the thrill of seeing my first byline in print in my high school's newspaper, I knew that a writer is what I wanted to be when I grew up. Thankfully, I can honestly say that I am living that dream.
I currently serve as assistant editor at Home Media Magazine, a weekly quasi-trade publication focusing on the ever-evolving home entertainment industry. Throughout my tenure with Home Media, I have interviewed actors including Rashida Jones, Josh Hutcherson, Andrew Garfield, Cloris Leachman and David Oyelowo; directors Wes Craven, Stephen Chbosky and Louie Schwartzberg; household names Jane Goodall, Ziggy Marley, Aaron Sorkin and Dane Cook; and top-level executives like Sony Pictures' David Bishop and Warner Bros.' Jeff Baker, among others. I've also reviewed acclaimed films such as The Perks of Being a Wildflower, The Paperboy and Beasts of the Southern Wild. But that's not all I'm capable of. I gained a wealth of knowledge in online content management, as I am responsible for updating the company's website daily with news stories and photo galleries, and sending out daily e-newsletters featuring the day's top stories, the weekly digital edition and breaking news alerts.
In February 2012, I created and began managing a personal blog, Ashley ♥ Adores, focusing on my myriad and growing interests, including natural hair care, hunting for treasures at local thrift shops, God-centered encouragements, design and style inspiration, culinary adventures and much more.
Another dream of mine was realized in November 2010, when I self-published my first book, Stories 4 Women, a collection of true short stories about the woman's experience, in collaboration with three colleagues. The book earned an Honorable Mention in the genre category at the 2011 Hollywood Book Festival.
I graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where I majored in Sociology and minored in Professional Writing (Editing Emphasis). After writing for my college newspaper, the Daily Nexus, and interning at the Pacific Coast Business Times and Santa Barbara News-Press, I landed my first professional writing gig at the Palos Verdes Peninsula News in 2006, where I spent an enriching four years until I moved on to Home Media Magazine.
In my spare time, I do freelance public relations work and book editing, in addition to dancing and keeping up with my energetic four-legged kid, Berkeley Buster.
